Oracle 11 to 12c Migration for 200+ DBs and 70 Apps

Recently, we contributed to an infrastructure project migrating over 200 database instances and 70 applications from Oracle 11 to Oracle 12c (or 11.2.0.4 for compatibility issues).

We began by analyzing CMDB data, using it to develop a project plan based on PRINCE2 principles. We created a tracking tool on Microsoft SharePoint, a platform familiar to the client, to monitor all database instances and applications slated for migration. Basic CMDB data was imported to initiate the process, and the tracker recorded every change, capturing updates from application owners and the infrastructure team. This enabled rapid reporting on project progress to management.

The project launched in May 2017 and was completed in December 2017.
